The goIT program strengthens communities by empowering students today to create solutions for tomorrow. Through goIT, students across the United States and Canada gain skills that are necessary to be competitive in the 21st century workforce. goIT is an experiential, immersive program where middle and high school students tackle real world problems alongside industry experts through hands-on technology education. Our primary goal is to demystify computer science and help students gain the ability and confidence required to pursue STEM degrees. Students work with TCS mentors to identify problems affecting their community, simulating the processes and models of the world's leading design thinkers- eventually crafting an innovative solution.
There are a host of jobs emerging over the next ten years that currently do not exist. Skills ahead of the curve are materializing as technology becomes the driving force behind successful careers in the future. Given the relatively young history of computers, 21st-century skills—specifically computational thinking—have not been a part of traditional education. Until now. In September 2017, we partnered with Discovery Education to launch Ignite My Future in School. This first-of-its-kind initiative leverages computational thinking and innovative teacher resources to transform the way K-12 students learn across North America. Through this program, we plan to engage 20,000 teachers and one million U.S. students by 2021. Our free, nationally aligned resources are available for educators, administrators and school districts to introduce computational thinking concepts within the context of core subjects like the arts, English, mathematics, social studies, and science.
As founding members of STEMConnector’s thought leadership and action council, the STEM Innovation Task Force, our goal is to build awareness around careers in STEM. We developed STEM Career Accelerator (STEMCA) as a way to convey the endless career possibilities in STEM education and innovation; through the program, our workforce of IT associates visits schools across North America sharing their professional experiences with students.
TCS empowers its employees to mentor students in classrooms during Computer Science Education Week. Leveraging TCS' own Ignite My Future in School lesson plans and online learning tools, TCS's industry experts introduce students to fundamental concepts of computational thinking and computer science. TCS has impacted more than 5,450 students through this one week campaign to-date.
TCS has supported the development of the Learning Blade® platform, enabling the curriculum to be delivered to thousands of schools nationwide. Learning Blade, is an interactive, web-based supplemental system for increasing student interest in and attitudes towards STEM careers. Learning Blade introduces students to these and other skills in middle school and early high school, critical ages for beginning career path decisions.
